So You Have a Small Block?? No Worries!

How a team can adjust your defense to adapt to a small front-row setter who’s a weak blocker.   In this Quick Hit, we will explore two options.

In the first scenario, the middle digger should fill the gap behind the setter’s block in order to dig any balls that go over the setter’s blocking hands. The middle digger should start in her typical position, and then as the hitter is about to attack the ball, then slide over to cover that gap in the block.

In the second scenario, the middle blocker and left blocker travel to block the opposite team’s outside hitter and the short setter can pull off and dig the tip over the block. This is a particularly lucrative strategy if the setter is a very weak blocker.
